Robin Hoods Bay

When visiting Whitby and the surrounding area Robin Hood’s Bay, one of the most charming and popular villages in the North York Moors National Park should be one of the first places you visit.

Situated on the beautiful Heritage Coast, the village marks the end of the famous Coast to Coast walk, one of wainwrights favorite routes. It has to be one of the most charming and popular fishing villages in the country.  The older fishing village has quaint red-roofed cottages perched on the side of the cliff all jostling for space. The steep road in the centre leads right down to the bay where at low tide the characteristic rocky scars of the Peak Fault are visible just off the beach. It’s a great place for fossil hunting and the rock pools left by the tide contain a whole host of different marine life.

Attractions nearby include the Robin Hoods Bay and Flyingdales Museum which houses some fascinating collections and displays of local interest. Learn all about the history of the village at the Old Coastguard Station where there is an exhibition room run by the National Trust. Or take a ride along the sea front on horseback with the Farsyde Riding Centre.

Being right on the sea front means you will be able to sample some great fresh seafood in one of the pubs or restaurants. Or why not make the most of a warm summers evening and sit on the beach with some local fish and chips deemed ‘the best yet’ by the locals?
