Through York’s turbulent history, the Cathedral has stood for over 500 years as it looks today with it’s first inception as a church to baptise the Anglo Saxon King Edwin of Northumbria nearly 1500 years ago! Since then it has gone through numerous expansion and been badly damaged by fire leading to extensive restoration through its history, which still goes on today.
Standing as an iconic landmark of York with it’s rich architecture and steeped in history, York Minister dominates the city centre as you navigate round, making it very difficult to loose your bearings! The green areas outside the cathedral make for a lovely place to sit and relax or have some lunch with the inside of the Cathedral, complete with vast arches and historic features make it a real wonder admire both inside and out.
