Filey Beach

Filey has been a seaside resort since Edwardian times and a fishing village for much longer. It is smaller and more refined than Bridlington and Scarborough and there is much less noisy development on the sea front making it great if you want to escape the normal busy crowds in the peak seasons.

Filey Beach has a glorious wide stretch of golden sand. The beach is lined with a historical promenade from where the beauty of the dramatic Filey Brigg can be seen. This intriguing rock formation juts out into the sea and has some good rock pools to see and explore. The facilities at the beach aren’t consistent with the more popular areas but you can find a bar, café and toilets all within walking distance.

To the south of the beach are a cluster of sheer limestone cliffs. These white limestone cliffs extend south to Flamborough Head and onto Bempton Cliffs, the highest sea cliffs in England. During the summer months these cliffs are home to many thousands of breeding seabirds; such as guillemots, razorbills, puffins, kittiwakes and fulmars. This is a great area to spot wildlife whilst relaxing amongst some stunning scenery.
