Pickering is a tranquil market town situated in the centre of the Vale of Pickering, the official gateway to the North York Moors National Park. The area is surrounded by the vast expanse of heather covered, rolling moorland and mature forests.

There are a whole host of attractions in and around the town including The Great Yorkshire Forest of Dalby Forest, The North Yorkshire Moors Steam Railway (the longest steam railway in England) and The Beck Isle Museum with its unique collection of black and white photography.

For families attractions such as Flamingo Land, Castle Howard and Duncombe Park will keep the whole family entertained all day. While Harry Potter fans can explore locations used in the filming of Philosopher's Stone starting in Pickering itself with the Pickering Railway Station.

The more active amongst you can enjoy mountain biking or walking through the forest at Dalby by choosing from a selection of designated routes all marked on maps available at the information centre.

Back in the town the market place has an excellent choice of local shops. You'll find all that you need from self catering provisions, to art galleries and souvenir shops.
