Description

This delightful property is situated near Danes Dyke, which is between Bridlington and Flamborough on the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast. Crab Cottage is a barn conversion finished off to a very good standard with modern, tasteful furnishings and decor. It is very well equipped and provides an excellent base for couples, families and dog owners looking to explore this beautiful coastline. All rooms are on the ground floor making it suitable for people with limited mobility. There is a private garden and access to a paddock area with beautiful wild flowers where you can sit and enjoy the surrounding countryside. The property is centrally located for visiting either Bridlington or Flamborough that are both located a couple of miles in either direction. Flamborough, with its beaches, white cliffs and lighthouse is a beautiful place to visit with its ample selection of shops and pubs serving good home cooked food.
Crab Cottage is an ideal base for walking and cycling and enjoying the stunning scenery and bird life on this splendid coastline, with the well known RSPB cliff top sanctuary at Bempton just a couple of miles away where you can see the many gannets and puffins nesting there. Sewerby Park and Gardens are only a short drive away to the east where you can enjoy woodland walks, a children’s zoo, a cafe, cricket, bowls, a train and lots more. The countryside on the outskirts of Bridlington has provided David Hockney with the inspiration for one of his exhibitions and there are many walks which allow visitors to view this scenery for themselves. Bridlington itself is a fantastic place for families with its beautiful harbour with two lovely sandy beaches on each side, where you can sail on ’The Yorkshire Belle’ pleasure cruiser that offers a 1 hour cruise along the coast. The children will love the fun fairs, donkey rides, building sandcastles and having great fun splashing around at Leisure World, with its wave pool and slides. This cottage has everything you should require to have a holiday to remember. Shop and pub ¼ mile, restaurant 1½ miles.

About the local area

Part of the Yorkshire Heritage Coast, the area around Bridlington and Hornsea is rich in areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Bridlington is renowned for its award winning beaches. Hire a beach chalet and let the children enjoy the fun at Kiddies Corner, or take a trip on the Land Train to Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

An impressive country house with acres of gardens to explore, Sewerby is also home to a small zoo where children are sure to delight in the popular Humboldt Penguins. Wet weather is never a problem, with plenty of amusement arcades along the seafront and Leisureworld, which boasts an indoor fun pool, complete with waves and waterslides.

Fourteen miles south of Bridlington is the little seaside town of Hornsea, housing a pottery museum and Bettison's Folly, a Grade II listed tower, while nearby Hornsea Mere offers sailing and fishing.

North of Bridlington is Flamborough Head, a chalk headland with the oldest lighthouse in Britain, which was built in 1674 but never used. There is also a newer, working lighthouse, where you can climb the 119 stairs and admire the extensive views. This is a Special Area of Conservation and a birdwatcher's paradise, with its regular visitors of gannets and puffins.

Danes Dyke at Flamborough is a massive flat topped bank and ditch that cuts through the headland. Believed to have been built as a defensive structure, it dates back to the iron age and is now a nature reserve, offering the visitor a series of walks and nature trails to explore.
