Grosmont

The picturesque village of Grosmont lies in the Esk Valley in North Yorkshire and within the boundary of the North Yorkshire National Park.

The surrounding countryside offers plenty of activities for holidaymakers who want to get out and about and explore, but the village itself has plenty to keep visitors interested too. Amenities include an art and crafts shop, a small supermarket and a welcoming café and picnic area.

Grosmont has a rich industrial heritage, as evidenced by the kiln and lime workings which can still be seen dotted around the village. One of the biggest attractions in Grosmont is the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, which has a 1950s style station stop here. Once on board, the steam railway meanders through eighteen miles of pristine countryside before ending in the seaside resort of Whitby.

The journey from Grosmont to Whitby takes around 25 minutes, whilst the traditional market town of Pickering lies around one hour ten minutes away from Grosmont in the other direction. Both towns make for an excellent excursion during a stay here, although if you don't particularly feel like moving the traditional tea room on the station platform is the ideal place to while away an hour or two.
