Description

Situated in an elevated position on the edge of the North York Moors National Park, yet within easy reach of Scarborough; Basin Howe Farm Cottages comprise a small development of two barns forming four cottages arranged around a parterre to provide holiday accommodation of a superior standard. The property is in a rural location on the edge of The North York Moors and close to Dalby Forest (which has Dark Skies status, great for avid stargazers) and is surrounded by tranquil farmland with a splendid outlook over the Wolds. Opened in 2011 each barn has been individually styled, architecturally designed and benefits from beautiful character features such as exposed stonework, solid oak beams and oak flooring married together with modern conveniences. All cottages have comfortable sofas and comfortable beds.
Guests have access to two acres of award winning gardens, including a newly designed oriental gravel garden. Secure storage for bicycles. The area is perfect for horse riders or cyclists to ride straight out with miles of bridleways and cycle routes to explore in and around the North York Moors and an excellent area for bird watching.
The nearest local pub and restaurant is The Anvil Inn in Sawdon village serving a good menu and hearty Sunday roasts (booking is recommended).
Basin Howe Farm takes its name from its very own Bronze Age burial mound.  This is a truly unique selection of cottages offering a chance to get away from it all in scenic surroundings.
Jade Cottage has original large feature barn windows letting in an abundance of daylight to the spacious lounge and the bedroom above. Both bedrooms are on the first floor and have their own en-suite facilities. Both the kitchen and the lounge are spacious enough for a dining table and chairs so there is a choice between dining in the lounge or in the kitchen.
Guests may use the patio in front of the farm house overlooking the parterre with views to the Wolds or the seating in the mature rose garden.

About the local area

Scarborough is situated at the southern end of the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast and, together with Filey, offers beautiful beaches, coastal walks and a variety of entertainment for the whole family.

Scarborough is a town of two halves, with South Bay full of amusement arcades, fish and chip shops and donkey rides, whilst the more genteel North Bay is home to several parks and grand Victorian buildings. The whole family will want to take a trip on the miniature North Bay Railway, which will take you to Sea Life Centre and to the Historic Water Chute and Boating Lake, where you can have a go on the amazing Water Walkers.

Filey is a small traditional seaside town, home to an award-winning museum and a nature reserve that is a haven for wild birds. The town is situated at the eastern end of The Cleveland Way, a long- distance footpath that skirts the Yorkshire Moors and has many beautiful walks with stunning views to offer. Children will enjoy a visit to Funland with its rides and arcades, perhaps followed by a visit to nearby Glen Gardens, which boasts a boating lake and children's play area.

Within easy reach is the famous Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, which has something to offer every member of the family, from thrilling white-knuckle rides to children's entertainment. For something really out of the ordinary, pay a visit to Pesky Husky, where you can take part in a kennel tour followed by walk or even a trek with these charismatic dogs.
