Description

Originally part of the fishing community, this cottage is oozing with character. Situated in a quiet street just off the main Filey high street it makes it a perfect stay with easy access to the shops, restaurants and the beach. This terraced cottage has been restored to a good standard and the owners have given it a real holiday feel, with great décor and seaside bunting. To the rear of the property there is a small, enclosed courtyard with seating - a great little suntrap.
Filey is a very traditional seaside resort with one of the best beaches down the east coast. It’s not as busy as its neighbours, Scarborough and Bridlington, and is a popular choice with young families due to the large sandy beach that stretches for miles down towards Reighton.
Bempton Cliffs area a short drive away. This has a very famous RSPB bird reserve where you can witness the spectacular seabird activity on the cliffs. Children will enjoy seeing the comical puffins (in season) and there’s plenty for children to do with educational games and walks. Further north are the resorts of Scarborough, Robin Hood’s Bay and Whitby. The town of Whitby is bustling with people in the summer, and definitely worth a visit. To the south of Filey is Bridlington where you will find a busy working harbour, as well as excellent beaches. For those who enjoy visiting the magnificent stately homes that Yorkshire boasts, this is a prime location from which to visit several such as Sewerby Hall, Sledmere House, Burton Constable and the wonderful Castle Howard, which are all within a short drive. The cities of York and Hull are both within an hour’s drive, or can be reached by train. Golf course ½ mile. Beach 300 yards. Shop 300 yards, pub and restaurant 150 yards.

About the local area

Scarborough is situated at the southern end of the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast and, together with Filey, offers beautiful beaches, coastal walks and a variety of entertainment for the whole family.

Scarborough is a town of two halves, with South Bay full of amusement arcades, fish and chip shops and donkey rides, whilst the more genteel North Bay is home to several parks and grand Victorian buildings. The whole family will want to take a trip on the miniature North Bay Railway, which will take you to Sea Life Centre and to the Historic Water Chute and Boating Lake, where you can have a go on the amazing Water Walkers.

Filey is a small traditional seaside town, home to an award-winning museum and a nature reserve that is a haven for wild birds. The town is situated at the eastern end of The Cleveland Way, a long- distance footpath that skirts the Yorkshire Moors and has many beautiful walks with stunning views to offer. Children will enjoy a visit to Funland with its rides and arcades, perhaps followed by a visit to nearby Glen Gardens, which boasts a boating lake and children's play area.

Within easy reach is the famous Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, which has something to offer every member of the family, from thrilling white-knuckle rides to children's entertainment. For something really out of the ordinary, pay a visit to Pesky Husky, where you can take part in a kennel tour followed by walk or even a trek with these charismatic dogs.
