Staintondale

Staintondale is a small village between Scarborough and Whitby. It has a long history with archaeological finds dating back to the Roman period. It has also been linked to a history of smuggling thanks to the uncountable tiny bays and inlets that litter the North Yorkshire coast.

The village has two very interesting and unusual attractions. One of them is the Shire Horse Centre, whilst the other is a llama trekking centre.

The Shire Horse Centre is set in 40 acres of coastal grounds and offers visitors a wealth of activities. Of course, there are plenty of activities involving horses, for example, the live horse shows as well as the chance for children to get really hands-on with the Shetland ponies. Visitors can also visit the forge and the stables. There are also opportunities to enjoy coastal walks and superb sea views. Or if you prefer, there are hedgerows and a pond to enjoy.

In addition to the flora and fauna, there is a fascinating museum about smuggling in the area as well as a children's play area and of course, a cafe selling home cooked food and other refreshments. The Shire Horse Centre provides a great day out for all the family.
