Wold Newton

Extending from Hull up to Bridlington on the North Yorkshire coast, the Yorkshire Wolds is an area of outstanding natural beauty. With its rolling hills and plentiful valleys, it is home to a number of picturesque villages and natural attractions.

Wold Newton is one such attraction. A characteristically small village centred around a village green and a pond. The Gypsey Race flows into the pond. This stream runs through The Great Wold Valley, the largest valley in the Wolds before ending up in the pond.

With its Georgian houses complete with characteristically tiny windows and white railing fences, the village is full of rustic charm. The local church, surrounded by lots of ancient trees, includes some historic Norman features. There is a pub in the village, The Anvil Arms, which once a blacksmith's shop is over 200 years old and still boasts some of its original structure and features.

An interesting and unusual feature of Wold Newton is the brick column, erected outside the village, built to commemorate the falling of a meteorite. This meteorite, pieces of which are now in the Natural History Museum in London, fell to earth at 3 pm on December 13th 1775.

Close to Scarborough and Bridlington as well as deep within the Yorkshire Wolds, Wold Newton is a beautiful, quaint rural idyll
