About the local area

Situated in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park area it is a haven for keen walkers and the cottage is situated literally 20 yards from the famous Cleveland Way. The best views of the village can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs down the Cliffside to the sea’s edge and covers 110 miles passing through some beautiful resorts like Runswick Bay, Sandsend and Whitby. The area is renowned for its fossil hunting and fishing and Staithes is one of the most photographed villages in Yorkshire and claims connections with Captain Cook, who was apprenticed to a draper near the harbour. Nowadays, Staithes is a must for anyone visiting the Yorkshire Coast and has a good selection of pubs, shops, tea rooms and an Art Gallery. Staithes is also well known for its group of Victorian artists and art classes which are still very popular today. The historic town of Whitby is only 10 miles away and is famous for its connections with Bram Stoker’s book, Dracula and also its delicious Fish and Chips which you must sample whilst enjoying a great day out with the family.
