About the local area

It also hosts many events and festivals throughout the year including Sixties weekends, Soul weekends, Goth weekends and many more making Whitby a very popular place to visit. There are also several restaurants that have won many awards for excellent cuisine especially if you enjoy fish. The tour bus is a great way to get around and to make sure you don’t miss out on everything Whitby has to offer. You could also take a trip out on one of the pleasure boats where you can enjoy a trip around the harbour and out to sea where you can view Whitby in all its glory. Whitby is surrounded by spectacular scenery of the North York Moors which you can enjoy by taking either the Esk Valley train that takes you to Middlebrough stopping at the pretty villages along the way, or the excellent North York Moor steam train that takes you from Whitby to the lovely market town of Pickering stopping off at Goathland otherwise known as ’Heartbeat Country’. The lovely coastal resorts of Sandsend, Staithes, Runswick Bay and Robin Hoods Bay are all within close proximity and are well worth a visit.
