Rock Lea is one of a group of Grade II listed fisherman’s cottages in the heart of this vibrant beach and fishing village. It is a thriving community with an Art Gallery, two pubs, cafes and restaurants and some small shops including a fantastic butcher/general store and a gift shop. Renovated to a very good standard, Rock Lea has been awarded 4 star status by Visit England. It retains original features with pine and beams, is warm and cosy and has been decorated and furnished to a high standard. There are two multi-fuel stoves and, unlike many other properties in Staithes, all power and fuel are included for the whole of your stay, not just an initial supply. Central heating is by an innovative thermal store system. There are two good sized bathrooms with good quality fittings, and towels are provided. There are two double bedrooms and a single bedroom with twin beds (adult size), one stored under the other. A travel cot, highchair and stairgate are available in the cellar which can be used to store bicycles and luggage. Two well behaved dogs are welcome but there is no private outside space. The house is very well-equipped and is a ’home form home’. Rock Lea makes for a great holiday or short break with a complimentary bottle of wine on arrival. Shop, pub and restaurant 50 yards.

About the local area

Staithes is still a working fishing village , is one of the most photographed villages in Yorkshire and boasts a connection with the explorer Captain James Cook. It is an ideal location for walkers and the best views of the village can be enjoyed from the Cleveland Way which runs along the Cliffs above the village covering 110 miles and passing through  beautiful coastal villages like Runswick Bay, Sandsend and the town of  Whitby. The historic town of Whitby is famous for its connections with Bram Stoker’s Dracula and its wonderful fish and chips. The 3 miles of golden sands are ideal for a relaxing day at the seaside or you could take a tour bus to  local sights. Climb the 199 steps up to Whitby Abbey for a fantastic view of the town. The North York Moors (steam) Railway runs from Whitby to Pickering over the moors through the National Park via many secnic villages such as Goathland, where ’Heartbeat’ was filmed - a great day out
