This former barn used as a Cart Shed has been converted and lovingly furnished to a high standard ensuring the perfect holiday home for the larger family.  Situated in a rural position within the grounds of a working farm, Cart Shed is surrounded by open countryside whilst being close to the sea and sandy beaches and approximately 3 miles equidistant of the bustling fishing port of Whitby and the picturesque village of Robin Hoods Bay.  Cycle hire is available within the immediate area with the Cleveland Way easily accessible, along with horse riding, golf, sailing and miniature railway at nearby Ruswarp.

Accommodation details

Ground floor

The Old Cart Shed is heated by electric night storage heaters and comprises:
Entrance Hall.
Lounge:  With colour TV with basic sky package, DVD, radio/CD and electric stove.
Kitchen: With electric oven and hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washer/dryer.
Bedroom 1: With king size bed and under floor heating.
Bathroom: Fully tiled bathroom with shower over the bath, W.C. basin, shaver point and heated towel rail.

First floor

Bedroom 2:  With king size bed and single bed (bedding and linen provided) for extra guest.*
Bedroom 3: With twin beds.
Shower room: With W.C., basin, and heated towel rail.

All fuel, power and bed linen provided. Cot and high chair available. Towel hire direct with owner £3.50 per person per week.


Outside: Paved patio with garden furniture. Well behaved pets welcome. Off road parking spaces for 2 cars. Can be booked together with Ploughman’s Cottage (241139) to accommodate 10/11 people.

About the local area

Found on North Yorkshire's east coast, Whitby is a picturesque seaside town brimming with maritime history and rich cultural heritage. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park and beautiful coastline, the town and its nearby areas are brimming with attractions.

Nestled in valley at the mouth of the Esk River, Whitby is a great place to visit, with steep winding streets and little boutique shops selling local delicacies and handicrafts. Built on both river banks, it is unified by its landmark swing bridge that spans the water.

Visit the port where Captain Cook first took to the seas, the harbour framed by Grade II listed piers, each with its own lighthouse. Explore the Whitby Abbey ruins, home to the ancient poet Caedmon and St Mary's Church, which dominate the east bank; climb the 199 'Church Steps' to reach the graveyard on the cliff top.

The coastline is a part of the 'Jurassic Coast', renowned for its fossils. In Whitby, fossilised dinosaur footprints are found imprinted on the beach. To see a larger selection of local fossils, visit the Rotunda Museum in nearby Scarborough.

Whitby is small but culturally rich. There are museums, art galleries and also the Pavilion Theatre that hosts a range of events in the summer and the Bram Stoker Film Festival every October. A place of literary traditions it was, amongst other things, used as the setting for 'Dracula'.

There is a yearly regatta every August and numerous sea and land activities for adventurers, from the Cleveland Way to windsurfing and diving off the shore.

The idyllic setting of Robin Hood's Bay provides the perfect backdrop for a day that you'll never forget. The centre has its own private hillside and quarry site which has a super selection of terrain providing courses which are perfect for beginners and excellent for the experienced and daring 4x4 drivers.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway

One of the country's most popular steam railways, covering 18 miles between the market town of Pickering and the village of Grosmont, travelling through the heart of the North York Moors National Park.

Captain Cook Memorial Museum

Situated in the house by the harbour side where James Cook came to serve his apprenticeship in 1746. With period rooms as Cook knew them, original paintings, manuscripts, models and artefacts from his voyages.

Robin Hoods Bay

When visiting Whitby and the surrounding area Robin Hood's Bay, one of the most charming and popular villages in the North York Moors National Park should be one of the first places you visit.
