The historic city of York is situated in the heart of Yorkshire and is one of Britain's premier destinations. Steeped in history stretching back to Roman times, through the age of the Vikings, York eventually became one of Europe's most important mediaeval cities.

The city's architecture is superbly preserved to this day including York Minster, the largest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe, and the extensive City Walls dating back to the 13th Century. As well as having a host of buildings of great historic interest, York is packed with attractions for adults and children alike such as Jorvik Viking Centre and The National Railway Museum or you may like to take a boat trip down the River Ouse. Visitors will also find an excellent shopping area, with many good restaurants and bars.

Beautiful and peaceful, the Yorkshire Wolds stretch from the chalk cliffs at Flamborough Head to the Humber Estuary. With gentle hills, picturesque villages and lively market towns this area offers visitors a restful break away from it all. Ideal for walkers and ramblers, the terrain is easy going. The 'Wolds Way' can be walked in a number of easy stretches, extending right across the Wolds.
