Located to the north of the historic city of York, Malton is a thriving market town in the heart of Ryedale, which offers a fantastic mix of shopping, hospitality and attractions. Having been an established rural community for more than 2,000 years, Malton and the adjoining town of Norton have played an important role in the history of the north, marking the gateway to the East Riding of Yorkshire and the River Derwent.
The very traditional town centre of Malton houses a classic market place that still boasts regular markets and events throughout the year including the popular Food Lovers Festival. Near the marketplace, quaint cafes, bistros and trendy bars provide popular meeting points for locals and tourists alike. With over 100 shops to choose from around the marketplace and in the World Wide Shopping Mall, there are plenty of opportunities for some retail therapy.
Malton boasts a number of historical buildings and monuments, both ancient and modern. To help take it all in, the Malton Trail has been developed to guide visitors around the main points of interest in the town. Plenty of visitor attractions are within easy reach of the town including Castle Howard, Flamingo Land and Eden Camp, enough to keep visitors young and old well entertained during their stay.
