Pocklington is a small quaint civil parish and market town situated at the base of the Yorkshire Wolds within the East Riding of Yorkshire, Britain. It is around 13 miles to the east of York. The skyline of the town is dominated by a large church tower which was built in the 15th century. The architecture in the town is a combination of modern buildings and charming cottages. The town has a number of street names which are quite unusual; these names reflect the town's history which dates back to the Iron Age.
The High Street in Pocklington contains a mixture of several independent shops, banks, public houses and restaurants. The Pocklington Arts Centre was opened to the public in 2000 and offers a vast array of drama, music, film, workshops, exhibitions and lectures.
For nature lovers Pocklington is a great destination; there are numerous walkways through the canal head and Millington Wood. The Pocklington Canal is considered to be one of the top locations in Britain to view watery wildlife. Allerthorpe Lakeland Park is also nearby, with a beautiful park for walking as well as a lake which has water-sport facilities and a second lake for those who enjoy fly-fishing.
