Newton upon Derwent

In 2001 the Parish of Newton upon Derwent in the East Riding of Yorkshire was recorded as having 282 residents. Unless you happen to be one of those people or a member of their family, you could be forgiven for never having heard of it. The village is about a mile from Wilberfoss and five miles from Pocklington. The River Derwent runs close by and it is from this that the village takes its name. York Racecourse can be reached in 15 minutes from here and other large towns are within easy travelling distance.

In the village there is a pub, The Half Moon Inn and this can be a starting point for visitors who are walking in the area. The pub serves good home cooked food and welcomes children, if the family is having a meal. Also in the village is a church and community centre. There are several businesses run from properties in this area and local events are held in the hall by organisations such as the local Historical Society. Information as to dates can be found on the internet for some of these events but the pub is likely to be a better source of information.
