Bolton Abbey has almost 30,000 acres of land, includes the Strid which is part of the Wharfe River, where a narrowing section was shaped by the continual rushing water, over softer rock. Take care, it is slippery and wider than it appears. This area is beautiful and worthy of a visit.
The Devonshire Hotel stands close to the village and offers good hearty, Yorkshire food set close to the riverside with fabulous grounds to enjoy.
The steam train from Embsay Station to Bolton Abbey is an adventure; you will enjoy a very scenic, fifteen minute trip with views right across the moors. Take your time at Bolton Abbey, it will relax and inspire you.
Your visit should also include Parcevall Hall which has outstanding gardens, from the more formal terraces to woodland trails. Stroll through the changing scenery and enjoy the tranquility.
