The rustic village of Bradley near Skipton, found scattered amongst rolling hills and picturesque fields, is a wonderful place to feel as though you've stepped back in time. With its many stone walls and period buildings, being in Bradley feels as though you've returned to a world in which local farming and produce are still thriving industries and community spirit is still central to everyday life. Of course, this is still somewhat the case for the Bradley of the 21st century. With an abundance of historical features, as well as a landscape that is little changed from its roots in the Industrial Revolution, Bradley is a sleepy little village, which has managed to maintain its independence from the interfering forces of the modern world.
One of the key historical features that hints at the village's busy industrial past is the Leeds – Liverpool Canal, whose waters run through Bradley as well as many of Skipton's other nearby towns and villages. Although now equipped with modern swing bridges and health and safety notices, the canal remains as busy today as it ever was, though these days you are more likely to come across a tourist boat or a family barge drifting leisurely along the waterway than a 19th century steam boat.
