Having been built into the side of one of the area's many rolling green hillsides several hundred years ago, Carleton-in-Craven is a small, community based village near Skipton which, much like its surrounding neighbours, has managed to maintain its historical roots and antiquated feel even in the modern day. Amongst the stone walls and traditional facades of the local houses, the towering chimney of the old Carleton Mill still remains the focal point of the village. Although now defunct, the mill is soon to be converted into residential housing for local villagers, ensuring that this charming little village is not entirely lost to the ages.
In the spirit of their surroundings, many of the villagers are able to indulge in local fairs and community events, which are more often than not overlooked in bigger towns. The Carleton Duck Race is an annual fundraising event organised by the local parish, which sees locals from every corner of the village come together to race rubber ducks for charity. This idea may not have been entirely original, however. Carleton-in-Craven is also home to a family of ducks who have become something of a celebrity faction, with villagers taking on the responsibility to care for them and their ducklings
