Situated just a few miles outside of the attractive town of Skipton and bordering along the well known Leeds-Liverpool Canal, Farnhill is a small rural village in North Yorkshire, which backs on to the area's moorland. With a population of around 200, Farnhill is very much a tight knit community, which still retains aspects of its agricultural past.
Perhaps the most striking feature of the village is the historic Leeds-Liverpool Canal that runs through many parts of Farnhill. Crossed by a number of traditional stone bridges, the canal is a reminder of the area's industrial growth in the late 18th century, which saw a burgeoning cloth trade in the surrounding towns and villages.
Given its location set against the Yorkshire Moors, Farnhill's many tourist attractions tend to centre on the area's natural and historical features. A number of nature walks in and around Farnhill lead visitors to cultural relics, including a stone inscription dating back to the early 20th century, which notes the purpose of the nearby Jubilee Monument on Farnhill Moor. Built in the 1800s to celebrate the jubilee of Queen Victoria, it is only one of many Christian relics, which hint at the village's rich and sometimes ancient past.
