Situated in the hamlet of Healaugh in the heart of beautiful Swaledale, Barn End is an attractive 18th century original barn, transformed to provide holiday accommodation to Visit England four star standard. The cottage is a spacious and well thought out home from home which includes many delightful character features including exposed stonework and beams. The master bedroom and living accommodation is all at ground floor level (access is via the first floor) and the cottage also benefits from a second living space at first floor level to include a galleried mezzanine area with comfortable seating and huge Velux windows bathing the area in light. A stable door leads onto the south facing sunny terrace with patio with dining facilities,  four tier terraced garden to the side complete with fruit trees is the perfect place to sit and admire the views over Swaledale. A river beach on the banks of the River Swale is around half a mile from the cottage and is ideal to enjoy in the summer.

With electric night storage heaters and comprising:
Lounge: with multi fuel stove (starter pack of fuel provided) TV, DVD and radio/CD.
Kitchen: with Range style cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer and washing machine.
Dining Room: with beams and exposed stonework.
Bathroom: with bath, WC, basin, electric heater and shaver point.
Bedroom 1: with double bed and en-suite with shower cubicle, WC, basin, heated towel rail and shaver point.

First floor

Mezzanine sitting room: with three windows and comfortable seating.
Bedroom 2: with twin beds.

Second floor

Third floor


All fuel (starter pack for multifuel stove), power and bed linen provided.
Internet is available and the code is to be obtained from the owners house.


Beautiful enclosed south facing terraced garden with mature fruit trees and garden furniture. Parking on Village Green Land. Bicycle storage available. There is a river beach 0.5 miles away.
A £50 refundable damage deposit is due 1 week prior to arrival.

About the local area

Healaugh is just over a mile from Reeth, otherwise known as the ‘capital’ of Swaledale and where you will find pubs, tea rooms and shops not to mention local crafts shops. The area is perfect for walkers, with miles of countryside to explore including quaint villages with country pubs, fields dotted with sheep and old stone barns, and working farms. Mountain biking and horse riding is also available locally, and the dale also hosts the annual ‘Swaledale Festival’ in May and June featuring music, arts and crafts in a variety of venues.  Ideal for those wishing to get away from busy towns and cities, and experience a slower pace of life, Barn End is perfect for those seeking a tranquil break.

Richmond Castle

Richmond Castle, on a cliff above the River Swale near the town of Richmond is believed to be one of the oldest stone-built castles surviving today. The most impressive and best preserved area of the castle is the Great Keep, which stands over 100 feet tall.
