About the local area

The area itself provides visitors with mile upon mile of unspoilt dales and crags laced with perfectly formed dry stone walls. Tourists flock from all over the world to experience all that Swaledale and the Yorkshire Dales have to offer. The area is a haven for walking and cycling, with footpaths leading in every direction. For those cyclists who are unable to bring their own bicycles, there is a cycle hire shop in Reeth ideal for those who may just fancy a short leisurely ride, or for the serious cyclists amongst you who pedal with endless energy up hill and down dale The historic town of Richmond is just a short drive with its historic castle, theatre and quaint cobbled streets surrounded by a good selection of tearooms and gift shops and convenience stores.
Travel just seven miles to the west and you will arrive in the popular market town of Leyburn where a buzzing market lines the streets every Friday with stall holders selling a wide array of produce and wares. Leyburn is well served with a wide range of traditional shops and amenities. The green rolling hills of Wensleydale lie to the west of Leyburn with many historic inspiring landmarks. Just two miles from Leyburn is Middleham, famous for its castles that was home to Richard III, and wonderful racehorse presence as many famous racehorse trainers have chosen Middleham Moor as their training ground. Very rarely would you pass through Middleham without enjoying the wonderful sight of a group of racehorses as they head up to the moor for their daily gallop.
Another historic beauty in the area is Castle Bolton where Mary Queen of Scots was held for six months. This well preserved ancient castle sits proudly at the head of the village and attracts many tourists who are in awe of the grandeur of this magnificent structure surrounded by stunning countryside. However you chose to spend your holiday in the Yorkshire Dales, you are sure to be blown away by this vast expanse of stunning unspoilt countryside.
