The surrounding area is ideal for walkers and cyclists with a wide range of options from gentle paths through riverside fields to open moorland and steep fells. All of these are accessible straight from the doorstep of Fellsman Cottage. Reeth itself is on the Coast to Coast path, the Herriot Way and the Yorkshire Dales Inns Way.
The cottage is located in the heart of Herriot Country and much of the TV series All Creatures Great and Small was shot on location nearby, including the water splash between Low Row and Arkengarthdale which featured in the opening of each episode and the Red Lion at Langthwaite. A little further away at the head of Arkengarthdale is Tan Hill, the highest public house in England
There are also many other attractions nearby for visitors, both young and old. The market town of Richmond with its large market square is famous for its imposing medieval castle and also the Georgian Theatre and the regimental museum of the Green Howards. Also within 10 miles is the market town of Leyburn in Wensleydale which has many interesting shops. A drive up Wensleydale from there will take you past the 13th century Bolton Castle, part of which is still inhabited, and Aysgarth Falls to Hawes where you can visit the Wensleydale Creamery and the rope making works. Carrying on over Buttertubs pass then brings you back into the top of Swaledale. Further afield, but still within easy reach for a day’s visit, are the Bowes Museum at Barnard Castle, the Beamish Museum, the cathedral cities of York and Ripon and the spa town of Harrogate with its renowned Betty’s tearoom.
