Muker

The idyllic village of Muker is situated in the Swaledale region of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. A small village with a history rich in lead mining and farming, it is now a peaceful holiday destination surrounded by breathtaking scenery. Muker is situated near the confluence of Straw Beck and the River Swale and is set amidst beautiful flower meadows.

The village is a great base for walking whether casual strolls along public footpaths or longer outings on the Pennine Way or Coast to Coast path.

The area is well-known for sheep farming and following in the footsteps of traditional cottage industry set up in the 18th century, there is popular hand-knitted woollen wear for sale in the village, made using wool from the distinctive black-faced Swaledale sheep. There is also a craft shop and gallery selling local crafts and paintings.

Refreshments are available from the Muker Store and Teashop which is in the former vicarage. The store sells a range of provisions including fresh produce, groceries, maps and gifts. The café overlooks Straw Beck and has Victorian rooms with open fires and a patio outside and serves teas, coffee, light lunches and cakes.

There is a traditional pub in the village serving homemade food and real ale.
