About the local area

This tiny village can be found sitting beneath the Roova Crags on the south east side of the River Cover in one of the lesser known dales of Coverdale. Quiet and peaceful, the village is situated approximately 9 miles north of Kettlewell, 6 miles south west of Middleham, home to over 1,000 racehorses and Middleham Castle and the bustling  market town of Leyburn some 7 miles offers an excellent selection of shops and pubs, along with craft workshops including the Tea Pottery and the Little Chocolate Shop.
The area is surrounded by excellent walking and hiking through this delightful dale with walks through Coverdale, Gammersgill, Carlton and Horsehouse, or more strenuous walks up and over Roova Crags or to Scar House Reservoir - perfect for the outdoor enthusiast. Nearby, The Forbidden Corner ensures a perfect days outing for the young and young at heart, with a labyrinth of tunnels, nooks and crannies to be explored.
