About the local area

The cottage enjoys a quiet corner of Grove Square, yet just a stone’s throw away from the wonderful amenities that Leyburn has to offer. There are tearooms, restaurants, gift shops, delicatessen, Post Office and of course not forgetting the popular Friday market which lines the cobbled streets where a wide variety of produce and wares may be purchased. The owners will offer special discounts for the Daleshaven tearooms which is just a few minutes walk from Cecilia House and ideal for enjoying a leisurely afternoon tea, or invigorating morning coffee. Any guests who choose to bring bicycles may also store them at the Daleshaven.
There are many walks from the doorstep of Cecilia House leading into the depths of the Wensleydale countryside with mile upon mile of unspoilt rolling green hills and dry stone walls. The scenery can only be described as stunning. The area is steeped in history, drive just a couple of miles up the road you will arrive in Middleham with its magnificent castle which was home to Richard III, and a little further down the dale will lead you to Castle Bolton where the castle sits proudly at the head of this very picturesque village, and Mary Queen of Scots was held for six months. The undulating lie of the land has created some awe inspiring water displays with the popular Aysgarth Falls, and Burton Force waterfall at West Burton, and many streams that meander their way down the hills to the bottom of the valley. Cycling is becoming increasingly popular in the area and there are mile upon mile of quiet country roads for you to enjoy.
