A short stroll leads into the heart of the village over the cobbled streets where a good selection of shops including antiques and craft workshops, pubs and tea rooms await, Hawes is a bustling market town with stalls lining the main street each Tuesday and where locals and tourists purchase essentials and gifts. Situated in the heart of Wensleydale, Hawes is home to the Wensleydale Creamery which offers a wide variety of local cheese, a viewing gallery, tea and gift shop. The Dales Countryside Museum, a  working pottery and a traditional Ropemakers are also in the village.

The area is surrounded by beautiful countryside and ensures a perfect base for the outdoor enthusiast with an abundance of footpath walks, hikes and cycle ways throughout the Yorkshire Dales National Park. From Hawes the villages of Askrigg, with its James Herriot connections, and Aysgarth, complete with National Park visitor centre and waterfall walks are easily accessible and well worth a visit. For those who enjoy shopping, the market towns of Leyburn and Richmond each have a lot to offer
