Kirkby Lonsdale

Kirkby Lonsdale is a small market town located in the Southern Lakeland district of Cumbria between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales. This wonderful position means that visitors staying in the town are situated within easy reach of some of the best attractions and places in both of these beautiful areas.

Kirkby Lonsdale itself is a picturesque town boasting beautiful historic buildings and landmarks, as well as a number of unique shops, pubs cafes and restaurants which are spread over its traditionally styled cobbled streets.

The town is also famous for its stunning scenery; John Ruskin famously described the view from the historical St Mary’s Church over the scenic river Lune as “One of the loveliest in England”, a view which has now been named ‘Ruskin’s View’. The presence of the River Lune in the town also brings with it a number of picturesque walking opportunities and visitors can explore sites such as the Devil’s bridge, a beautiful three -arched bridge dating back to the 12^th or 13^th century and spanning across the river.

Kirkby Lonsdale also boasts a number of exciting family attractions including ‘The Enchanted Chocolate Mine’, a secret chocolate underworld lying beneath the streets of the town, where a team of faeries are thought to extract chocolate to be sold at the shop above! Families may also enjoy the ‘Station House Pottery Workshop & Tearooms’, where visitors can enjoy a spot of pottery painting in sessions that last on average two hours, a wonderful place to spend a rainy afternoon in!
