Pugneys Country Park is near Wakefield in West Yorkshire. It is a 250 acre site which was previously an open cast mine. It was turned into a country park in 1985 and makes a superb day out.
The park hastwo lakes, the largest of which is a 100 acre water sports lake. This caters for non-powered water sports such as canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. Equipment is available to hire or, alternatively, visitors are welcome to bring their own craft to use on the lake.
The water sports centre was opened in 2005 and provides superb facilities. These include changing rooms and excellent refreshment facilities at the modern cafeteria, where hot and cold food and drinks are available 7 days a week.
A comprehensive range of water sports courses are available at the centre, as is a range of high quality equipment to use or hire.
The large water sports lake has a footpath running all the way around. It is approximately 1.6 miles long and is suitable for jogging or simply taking a leisurely stroll.
