Description

Lady Edith’s is situated in the heart of Bridlington’s old town overlooking the cobbled market street. A sought after area of Bridlington, it is renowned for its good restaurants and independent shops. It was also the set for the movie ’Dad’s Army’. There are some beautiful historic buildings in the old town, as well as the spectacular Priory Church. Just take a few minutes from your holiday to visit this beautiful building, famous for its stained glass windows and several choir events that are held there throughout the year. Opposite the Priory is the Bayle Museum, where the history of Bridlington throughout the years is recorded in this ancient museum. It is a fascinating history of this busy fishing harbour and town.

This end-terrace house is furnished and decorated to a very good standard, and the owners have taken great care in providing a very comfortable holiday home for their guests. The icing on the cake is the wonderful private hot tub in the enclosed garden.

Bridlington has two large sandy beaches with two promenades and a lovely harbour to have a leisurely walk, and is a great resort for families to enjoy a traditional seaside holiday. On the seafront you will find Bridlington Spa, a great entertainment venue that hosts international shows as well as very popular music concerts. Bridlington even has a leisure centre, perfect for the rainy days.
Yorkshire is famous for its stately homes and Sewerby Hall is just one of them. Situated just north of Bridlington, you can actually walk along the clifftops to this stately home. The gardens are stunning and you can visit the house or just enjoy a lunch or coffee at the café. Sledmere House and Burton Agnes Hall are also close by. The resorts of Filey, Flamborough Head and Scarborough are just a short drive away. Hull, the City of Culture for 2017, and York, one of the most visited cities in the UK, are less than an hour by car. Beach 1½ miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

About the local area

Part of the Yorkshire Heritage Coast, the area around Bridlington and Hornsea is rich in areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Bridlington is renowned for its award winning beaches. Hire a beach chalet and let the children enjoy the fun at Kiddies Corner, or take a trip on the Land Train to Sewerby Hall and Gardens.

An impressive country house with acres of gardens to explore, Sewerby is also home to a small zoo where children are sure to delight in the popular Humboldt Penguins. Wet weather is never a problem, with plenty of amusement arcades along the seafront and Leisureworld, which boasts an indoor fun pool, complete with waves and waterslides.

Fourteen miles south of Bridlington is the little seaside town of Hornsea, housing a pottery museum and Bettison's Folly, a Grade II listed tower, while nearby Hornsea Mere offers sailing and fishing.

North of Bridlington is Flamborough Head, a chalk headland with the oldest lighthouse in Britain, which was built in 1674 but never used. There is also a newer, working lighthouse, where you can climb the 119 stairs and admire the extensive views. This is a Special Area of Conservation and a birdwatcher's paradise, with its regular visitors of gannets and puffins.

Danes Dyke at Flamborough is a massive flat topped bank and ditch that cuts through the headland. Believed to have been built as a defensive structure, it dates back to the iron age and is now a nature reserve, offering the visitor a series of walks and nature trails to explore.
