In a great location for exploring the surrounding countryside as well as the nearby coast. Stepping inside, the generously sized kitchen/dining room has an authentic country feel, completed with a bespoke wooden topped island. It is very well equipped and ideal for whipping up home cooked meals to delight the family. The living room is bright and welcoming, with glass bi-folding doors leading out into the garden. Here you have comfortable seating for you all together around the wood burner. The ground floor is completed with a separate toilet as well as a coat cupboard for jackets and walking boots. Up on the first floor you have three bedrooms. The first is a double bedroom as well as views over the garden, the second bedroom has twin beds and the third bedroom is the master with a kingsize bed as well as a modern en-suite shower. There is also a family bathroom which has the option of a bath as well as a separate shower cubicle.
Pickering is a wonderful base for exploring the North Yorkshire Moors and the nearby coastline. Pickering itself is a pretty market town, with a medieval castle. Box Tree Cottage is only steps away from the town centre with an abundance of amenities, including a selection of traditional pubs, restaurants and independent shops. The heritage steam train winds its way from Pickering over the rolling heather, through valleys and over hills to many picturesque villages all the way to Whitby. The North York Moors is a haven for walkers with many trails to explore and an abundance of wildlife. Dalby Forest is wonderful to explore in all seasons, with woodland walks as well as cycle trails. There are many wonderful attractions as well as places of natural beauty all within easy reach, making this an ideal base to discover.

To the north of York lies the North York Moors, a national park and one of the largest expanses of heather moorland in the UK. The area is bordered by the awe-inspiring North Sea coast cliffs and the Cleveland and Hambleton Hills.

Wild and windswept, the landscape of the North York Moors is breathtaking. Visitors will find miles of purple heather moorland, dense pine forests, hills and coastline. The space and solitude of the moors and its hidden valleys contrasts with the busy villages and towns found dotted in and around the area. They provide excellent opportunities to stop for a drink, a meal or for a taste of culture and tradition, from ancient castles to modern day attractions.

Many visit for the outdoor pursuits on offer. There are thousands of kilometres of paths and tracks to follow on the moors, from short strolls to days-long treks. For serious walkers, hikers and cyclists, the North York Moors are crossed by a number of long distance footpaths, including the Cleveland Way and the famed Coast to Coast walk. For a more leisurely but no less stunning experience, travel the 18 mile journey on the steam railway from Grosmont to Pickering, right through the Moors.

Visit popular destinations in and around the national park. Rievaulx Abbey and its landscape gardens are beautiful, while Helmsley and Pickering are both renowned for their ancient castles. For family-friendly options, try the grounds of Castle Howard or the Ryedale Miniature Railway, as well as the coastline dotted with rock pools and gentle waves.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway

Pickering

Pickering is a tranquil market town situated in the centre of the Vale of Pickering, the official gateway to the North York Moors National Park.

Sledmere House

Home to Sir Tatton Sykes, there has been a manor house at Sledmere since medieval times. The present house was begun in 1751 and extended in the 1790s. Visitors will find beautiful interiors and peaceful walled gardens.

York Minster

York Minster is the largest medieval Gothic Church north of the Alps. It is a prime example spanning from Roman remains in the foundations through its time as a Norman Church and of course the 250 year period it took to complete.
