Description
Easter Cottage is a beautiful, Grade II listed, traditional Yorkshire stone cottage, situated in the stunning village of Thornton le Dale, on the edge of the North York Moors National Park. The village is one of the prettiest in Yorkshire with its stone cottages and village green, where every Sunday in the summer months, a band performs on the green in the bandstand. A stream meanders through the village where the duck pond has lots of wildlife to see. The village has everything you need with a local butcher, bakers, shop and a couple of pubs, all within five minutes walk from the cottage.
Easter Cottage is just 1½ miles from Dalby Forest, and a complimentary Discovery Pass for 4 people (and free parking for 1 car) is included in your stay. Here there are 683 miles of cycle trails, from gentle family routes to serious down hilling for adrenaline seekers. Dalby Forest also hosts lots of other attractions such as Go Ape, special events for children like fungal forays and bug hunts, and for the adults, outdoor concerts in the summer. If you spent a few days in the forest with different activities each day, the whole area would still not be covered. The market town of Pickering lies just 2½ miles from the village of Thornton, with its famous station carrying passengers all the way to Whitby on its celebrated steam trains run by the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Passing through the North Yorkshire Moors, you can alight and discover the village of Goathland made famous in the TV series Heartbeat, as Aidensfield. Pickering hosts the WWII war weekend every year when the town becomes seeped in a bygone age; residents and visitors are dressed in 1940’s clothing, and Glen Millers music gets everyone in the mood.
Easter Cottage is ideally located for easy access to the medieval city of York with its history, museums, minster and shopping, and is less than 45 minutes by car, or if you prefer the regular “Coastliner” bus, this excellent bus service runs regularly throughout the week. Also within easy reach is the traditional seaside town of Scarborough on the East Coast, just 15 miles from the cottage. Filey is less than 20 miles drive with its traditional “cobble” on the sea front. You can also take a trip to the RSPB Cliffs at Bempton where Puffins abound in their natural habitat, possibly taking in Bridlington at the same time. Dogs and children will be well catered for with areas of beaches suitable for everyone. Castle Howard, the superb 18th century stately home set in over 10,000 acres of estate land, is just 16 miles away, with breathtaking landscaped grounds, garden centre, excellent farm shop and butcher selling locally grown meat and vegetables, woodland and lakeside walks, and an adventure playground.
After a hard days cycling in Dalby Forest, walking along the beach on the east coast or sightseeing and shopping in York, Easter Cottage will envelope you, with the warmth of two wood burners, beams and great facilities for the whole family. Shop and pub 700 yards.
