Description

Whether you are searching for exhilarating walks, beaches, superb views, castles, stately homes or even a dinosaur hunt, this converted barn provides the perfect holiday base. For those much needed quieter days, what better way to relax than enjoying the private, spacious patio garden.

Within easy reach is some of Britain’s most beautiful countryside to explore on foot, bicycle, horseback or car. The country’s oldest holiday resort, Scarborough, with its twin bays dominated by the castle and headland can be found three miles away. The town boasts all the traditional seaside treats. Visit the theatre where Alan Ayckbourn plays receive their world premieres, offering some excellent entertainment plus its own restaurant. Further down the coast is the traditional fishing town of Filey, sheltered by the brigg and Flamborough Headland, with its world renowned bird sanctuary. Continue on to Bridlington, a seaside resort without hills, and Hornsea, with bargains galore at the Freeport shopping outlet. Heading north from your cottage is the route to the old Scarborough to Whitby railway offering some sensational vistas as it bypasses quiet coastal villages clinging to the cliffs.

Whitby is the home of Captain James Cook and Dracula, and is packed with all manner of history about the famous residents. Jet jewellery and smoked kippers are famous exports but make sure to also visit the enchanting ruined abbey, accessible via 199 steps or a bus.

Badger Cottage is located in the North Yorkshire Moors National Park and inland excursions take you to the Roman Road at Wheeldale and Goathland, commonly known as Aidensfield. You can catch the steam train through Heartbeat Country from Pickering or Grosmont, or explore stately homes such as Castle Howard and Sledmere. Travel east to Thirsk and the Yorkshire Dales, made famous by James Herriot, stopping off in Kilburn to see Mousey Thompson’s famous wood carving workshop and the villages giant white horse. Closer to hand is the romantic forge valley, guarded by Ayton Castle and the Dalby Forest. Whatever your idea of a perfect British holiday, you can be sure to find it here at Badger Cottage. With beautiful countryside to admire and close to Scarborough and Filey, this converted barn is the perfect base for any keen explorer. Beach 2 miles. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
Badger Cottage can be booked together with Stable Cottage (CC244079) and Wren Cottage (UK2050) to accommodate up to 12 guests.

About the local area

Scarborough is situated at the southern end of the North Yorkshire Heritage Coast and, together with Filey, offers beautiful beaches, coastal walks and a variety of entertainment for the whole family.

Scarborough is a town of two halves, with South Bay full of amusement arcades, fish and chip shops and donkey rides, whilst the more genteel North Bay is home to several parks and grand Victorian buildings. The whole family will want to take a trip on the miniature North Bay Railway, which will take you to Sea Life Centre and to the Historic Water Chute and Boating Lake.

Filey is a small traditional seaside town, home to an award-winning museum and a nature reserve that is a haven for wild birds. The town is situated at the eastern end of The Cleveland Way, a long- distance footpath that skirts the Yorkshire Moors and has many beautiful walks with stunning views to offer. Kids will love visiting the Alpamare waterpark for all kinds of aquatic fun, with slides, waves and much more to enjoy.

Within easy reach is the famous Flamingo Land Theme Park and Zoo, which has something to offer every member of the family, from thrilling white-knuckle rides to children's entertainment. For something really out of the ordinary, pay a visit to Pesky Husky, where you can take part in a kennel tour followed by walk or even a trek with these charismatic dogs.
