Description

This beautiful detached barn conversion is tucked away in the courtyard of Lane End Farm. Dating back to the 1800’s, Lane End Cottage has been renovated in 2019 to a good standard. Set within a rural smallholding, be charmed by the wildlife passing by your window, with ducks and chickens being frequent visitors and sheep in the field nearby. There are two outside seating areas, a small courtyard outside the barn, providing a great spot to sit with a coffee and appreciate the beautiful morning sunrise, with a further point which is shared with the owners and accessed across the farmyard to sit and take in the countryside views of the valley beyond.
The open plan living and kitchen area is a great social space to chill out with your family and friends, with comfortable furnishings and a Smart TV. The stylish kitchen, with smart dark grey shaker style units and well-stocked with all the utensils and equipment you’ll need to rustle up a romantic meal or brunch. Romantics will love the spacious master bedroom with vaulted ceiling and kingsize bed, an en-suite is at hand with a double shower cubicle. The second bedroom has zip and link twin beds which can be converted to super kingsize bed. A separate bathroom is equipped for a relaxing soak with slipper-style bath. With an overhead Velux window, take advantage of the dark skies at night and lie back and watch the stars.
The cottage is approximately a mile from the coastal town of Saltburn-by-the-Sea, with some great local amenities including restaurants, pubs and some micro-breweries. The town is rapidly gaining a reputation as a ‘foodie destination’. The monthly food festival is a must visit on any holiday itinerary. Saltburn-by-the-Sea also boasts a great beach to enjoy, with an historic cliff lift and long pier from which to admire the views.
Getting out and about, there’s an abundance of things to do. With the wonderful scenery of the North York Moors National Park to explore, why not enjoy a day on the North York Moors Railway? With miles of coastal and moorland footpaths, this part of rural North Yorkshire is a walkers and bird watchers paradise.
Upleatham makes a great base from which to set out and explore, with the coastal resorts of Saltburn, Staithes and Whitby a short drive away. The ancient market town of Guisborough is 3 miles, amongst its attractions, the ancient priory is worth a visit, providing a fabulous venue for a variety of events throughout the year. Saltburn Golf Club is open to non-members and is approximately 500 yards away. With Errington Woods opposite the cottage providing a popular location for mountain bikers. Beach 2 miles. Shop and restaurant 1 mile, pub ½ mile.

About the local area

Found on North Yorkshire's east coast, Whitby is a picturesque seaside town brimming with maritime history and rich cultural heritage. Surrounded by the North York Moors National Park and beautiful coastline, the town and its nearby areas are brimming with attractions.

Nestled in valley at the mouth of the Esk River, Whitby is a great place to visit, with steep winding streets and little boutique shops selling local delicacies and handicrafts. Built on both river banks, it is unified by its landmark swing bridge that spans the water.

Visit the port where Captain Cook first took to the seas, the harbour framed by Grade II listed piers, each with its own lighthouse. Explore the Whitby Abbey ruins, home to the ancient poet Caedmon and St Mary's Church, which dominate the east bank; climb the 199 'Church Steps' to reach the graveyard on the cliff top.

The coastline is a part of the 'Jurassic Coast', renowned for its fossils. In Whitby, fossilised dinosaur footprints are found imprinted on the beach. To see a larger selection of local fossils, visit the Rotunda Museum in nearby Scarborough.

Whitby is small but culturally rich. There are museums, art galleries and also the Pavilion Theatre that hosts a range of events in the summer and the Bram Stoker Film Festival every October. A place of literary traditions it was, amongst other things, used as the setting for 'Dracula'.

There is a yearly regatta every August and numerous sea and land activities for adventurers, from the Cleveland Way to windsurfing and diving off the shore.

Situated in the house by the harbour side where James Cook came to serve his apprenticeship in 1746. With period rooms as Cook knew them, original paintings, manuscripts, models and artefacts from his voyages.

North Yorkshire Moors Railway

One of the country's most popular steam railways, covering 18 miles between the market town of Pickering and the village of Grosmont, travelling through the heart of the North York Moors National Park.

Robin Hoods Bay

When visiting Whitby and the surrounding area Robin Hood's Bay, one of the most charming and popular villages in the North York Moors National Park should be one of the first places you visit.
