Claxton Grange is a perfect base for exploring all the historic attractions of York, including the large medieval minster with its wealth of stained glass. Take a walk along the city walls or visit the Jorvik Viking Centre where the spirit of the Vikings is held captive for all time. Nowhere tells the story of the train better than the National Railway Museum from Stephenson’s Rocket to Eurostar. Art galleries, museums, and guided trips on the River Ouse - why not try the Ghost Cruise on an evening? York has top quality shopping, excellent restaurants and bistros and old timber-framed pubs serving wholesome food and real cask ales. Within easy driving distance is the busy market town of Pickering and the North York Moors beyond. A little further afield are the many seaside resorts and pretty fishing villages along the east coast. Alternatively access to the Yorkshire Dales National Park will take no time at all.
