Description
The Haven is a stunning farmhouse in the centre of Topcliffe, a quiet village resting on the river Swale in north Yorkshire between Thirsk, the famed ‘Darrowby’ in the popular James Herriot books.
With four comfortable bedrooms, a relaxing living room with wood burner, a sociable kitchen, and dining room ideal for family games and meals, this is a perfect retreat for groups of family or friends. The enclosed courtyard, that traps the sun in summer months, is perfect for a family BBQ. Take a stroll into the village and visit one of the local pubs, with the nearest just 150 yards away.
There are wonderful, famous cycling routes throughout the Dales and the North York Moors National Park including notorious Yorkshire Moors climbs such as Boltby Bank, Carlton Bank, Cote de Grosmont (Tour de Yorkshire 2016), Glaisdale Horror and the infamous Rosedale Chimney Bank, for the hardened cyclist. There is plenty of space to store the bikes under the stairs next to the front door and an outdoor tap for rinsing the dirt away.
Situated in the Vale of York, it has the beautiful North York Moors to the east and the picturesque Yorkshire Dales to the west. Topcliffe has a long and interesting history, being mentioned in the Domesday book and with indications of a settlement in the area dating back to Neolithic times. The Haven dates back beyond the 1800’s when it was once part of a larger estate and farm.
The nearby market town of Thirsk has a charm of its own, essentially unchanged and influenced by the world. It centres on a bustling cobbled market square, dominated by the town clock, with its Monday and Saturday markets and independent shopping. Visitors from all over the world are impressed by the warm and friendly welcome of the residents of this town. There’s a countryside racecourse for racing enthusiasts, numerous golf courses and plenty of things to do from ATV driving, countryside walks and exploring ancient abbeys such as Rievaulx and Fountains Abbey. Picturesque Ripon is just 8 miles down the road and only 20 miles away is the medieval walled city of York, with its many family attractions and cobbled streets. Beach 40 miles. Shop 100 yards, pub and restaurant 150 yards.
