Description
East Cottage is an 18th-century, semi-detached, former lead miner’s cottage situated adjacent to the owner’s own holiday accommodation, in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales and offers guests the possibility of long walks through unspoilt countryside from the doorstep. Approached via a farm track, you can totally get away from it all here. Although renovated, it still retains some of the old character, and the outstanding feature is the garden area with its views down the dale to the distant river. From the doorstep walks take you via Fremington Edge to Reeth or across to Scar House among other routes.
The property is situated in the tiny hamlet of Booze which is ¾ mile from Langthwaite in Arkengarthdale and 3 miles from Reeth village in Swaledale, where you will find a local village shop, bakery, tea shops, cafés and a popular pub that serves great food. There is also a small gallery and gift shop selling handmade Yorkshire crafts.
Many public footpaths and cycle paths lead right from the heart of the village and out beyond into Swaledale, Wensleydale and nearby Arkengarthdale, taking in magnificent views, unspoilt countryside, river walks and woodland areas that are rich in flora and fauna. A little further afield, but within easy driving distance, you can take a trip out to Leyburn, 10 miles, and Middleham, 12 miles. Castle Bolton, West Burton and Harmby, all popular tourist destinations, offer weekly farmers’ markets selling local produce and goods. Still within an easy 12-mile drive is the popular market town of Richmond with its Georgian architecture, castle, shops and theatre. The historic cathedral cities of Durham and York can be reached within a 1½-hour drive, and are certainly worth a day trip. The popular market town of Leyburn is only a short drive away and offers a weekly farmers’ market as well as a chocolate factory, Tenants Auction House and many cafés and eateries. Middleham has a castle, and is a well-known horse racing community. The Forbidden Corner is nearby, and families will be able to spend all day exploring the twists and turns of this hidden folly. Shop 3 miles, pub ¾ mile, restaurant 1½ miles.
