About the local area

The cottage is approximately 5 miles from the bustling market town of Leyburn which offers an abundance of shops, pubs, tea rooms and crafts. Aysgarth with its stunning waterfalls is approximately 4 miles and also home to The Yorkshire Dales National Park visitor centre, complete with gift shop and cafe. Bolton Castle is just a leisurely 1 mile walk across the fields where the cafe serves light lunches and teas which are mostly sourced locally. Entry to the cafe is free, but to encourage you to visit the castle as well, the owners have arranged a 20% discount for entry to the castle, a voucher will be in the kitchen when you arrive. On the doorstep are Redmire Force and the 12th century village church of St Mary. The area is surrounded with excellent paths and trails suitable for walking, hiking and cycling, ensuring something for all abilities.

The Pennine Bridleway is a new 350 mile long National Trail in the North of England.


Reeth, in the heart of Swaledale is a honey pot for locals and tourists. It lies where two of North Yorkshire's finest dales meet.
